Please post some pictures!

I heard that Maridee and Arnel had their housewarming party over the weekend.  I’m sorry that I wasn’t able to make it but I heard from Kuya Monching that some were there.

Can you please send me pictures so I can post it here?  Or should I just direct them to Arnel and Maridee’s Multiply site?

Let me know.  I will be glad to post the pictures here for our relatives to see.

Congratulations Maridee and Arnel!!

Rainy days and Mondays..

It’s been raining the past week or so and we are told that it should let up by Wednesday.  It’s really cool to have rainy days when you don’t have to go to work… for me, that means sleeping or watching TV with my blanket and a hot cup of cocoa.

It will be summer soon – - I hope people are planning on a reunion!  Like I said the last time, I won’t be involved in the planning anymore, but I promise to show up. :D

Just let me know – post something the our Yahoo Group or leave a comment here.  We will make sure that your message get’s propagated to the proper individuals.

Enjoy the rainy weather!

Cutting costs at work.

Some of you may have felt the impact of this ailing economy at your workplaces. I know because we had to take a paycut early this year and they predict that there wouldn’t be any merit increases as well. They’ve cut all our travel and even cut out our 401K contributions.

Times are tough. I remember two years ago when our company was having the best year ever. We would have company-sponsored outings, travel was unlimited and life was good. Before they even encouraged on-site training for every employee (all expenses paid) to keep up with technology and the industry. This time around, they prefer employees to take web based training in place of an on-site training. One great benefit? Cost. Web-based training is much more affordable than on-site training. I am actually taking one right now and I can take it at my own phase as long as I complete all the modules.

I really hope that the economy gets better soon. But until then, I think they will be finding ways of cutting costs even more. (Just leave the coffee – - that’s all I ask)

It’s Springtime…

Everyone knows that during the Spring season here in the US, there are many celebrations going on.  One of the trademarks of Spring is the celebration of Holy Communion for kids who has successfully completed their Sunday School classes.

The celebrants for this year I believe are, Jessica and Joshua Dominguez-Garcia (daughter and son of Larry and Divina Dominguez-Garcia), and Pamela and Jeffrey Dominguez (daughter and son of Oliver and Ruth Dominguez).

If you get a chance, please congratulate them.  You can send in your greetings through our Yahoo Groups  at sanglahi@yahoogroups.com.

God Bless.

Do you want an alternative to harmful cigarettes?

Most of our family members, at least on the Dominguez side, have quit smoking.  Health issues and other concerns such as congenital diseases made Kuya Boyette and Kuya Rey stop smoking.  There are still a few of us who need to quit. Has anyone tried the electric cigarette? I know that they are very careful to say that they do not claim to help you quit but some have quit with the use of it.

These cigarettes use vapor instead of the harmful smoke that we get from smoking. There is a bit of nicotine in it I believe to help you with your cravings. I am thinking of ordering one and I just want to find out if anyone has ever tried it yet. If so, please do leave a comment here and let us know. It will be a good thing for all of us. :D

You’ve worked hard all your life, are you ready to retire?

One of the greatest benefits here in the US is the way the government has planned for the future of Americans. You work hard and you invest and save for your future. You can do it on your own, and with a little help from the government, they save a little for you as well in the form of social security. But do we all know much about how it works and how it will benefit us in the long run? I highly doubt it. It seems so simple yet complex at the same time.

How do you find out information about social security? You may go online and look at the government website or find a site with aggregated information about it. There are many tips and news about retirement, how to plan for it and how it works. We need to understand them fully just because our retirement depends on it. We could be doing better in saving for our future if we know the path we are treading. Information is available to those who seek them and better seek them while you’re putting in your hard-earned money into it and know the current status of the system before it’s too late.

We all want to retire but how well prepared are we? Are you prepared? Will your benefits be enough by the time you retire? These questions and many others about social security benefits may be answered by simply going online and researching the topic. It benefits us to know about the things that would affect our future. So, don’t just sit there… start your research now.

Birthdays…birthdays…

As you all know, we have a lot of May birthday celebrants.  I’m one of them of course.  I share a birthday with Marita Lavarias-Phillips, who now resides in Poway, CA.  We share the 24th of May and usually commemorates the “Fiesta” in Baclaran in honor of our Patron Saint, Santa Rita de Cascia.  I’m sure that our town is bustling again with youths trying to put up banners and organizing amateur singing contests.  The things we miss huh?

Well, the weather has been crazy lately – in the Philippines and here in the US as well.  It’s either rainy, too hot or too cold.  I hope that the weather changes won’t damper the celebration this month in Baclaran.

Shout out to our “kapitbahay’s” who are still residing in the area.   Enjoy the month of May – - we will say a prayer or two for Lola Chayong who was very involved with the “Alay” to the Blessed Virgin Mary during the month of May.  We miss you lola!

The evolution of search engines.

If you’re a blogger or a webmaster, you know how it is to keep and maintain a website or blog. You work hard to get your blog or site recognized so it can generate traffic. You register your site in social networking sites to get more people to visit and hopefully purchase your products and at least get to know your product.

A new Search Engine called AAfter is a different kind of search engine. The benefits they offer are almost unreal. Imagine getting cash back from any product that you buy online if you purchase it using their search engine? This is on top of any savings already offered by the online merchant.. and the merchants are your regular and often visited merchants already. They show the you actual cashback you will receive on the page where you are buying your product.

And if your a blogger or a webmaster, you know spammers and people who visit your site only to create havoc. The search engine of AAfter.com provides you a tool called. IP Geo Location Tools for Webmasters or Bloggers. If you want to trace anyone, just input their IP Address and the site will provide you the IP details, Location, and even go as far as telling you if the IP address is black-listed.

These are only a few features out of many features from this search engine. Give it a try – - I personally like the cash-back feature as I buy many things online. Give us feedback and let us know.

Swine Flu – What can you do about it?

You’ve heard it on the news, read it on the newspapers. There is an epidemic going on and simply, there are a few ways you can protect yourself that are simple and does not take a lot of effort because you do them everyday anyway.

Simple things you can do:

Wash your hands often with soap and water. – This will help you get rid of germs and bacteria that may cause to spread the virus.

Cover your mouth when sneezing or coughing. – Always have a disposable tissue handy. Cover your mouth when you feel a sneeze or cough comng.

Use a sanitizing wipe or sanitizing gel. – If you believe you’ve touched something that may have been touched by other people, such as door handles, equipments, tools etc – a quick and easy way to protect yourself if you’re not in the area where hand washing is readily available – use a hand sanitizer.
